Lets gem brighter

Impact Hub KL had the honour of hosting the 3rd rendition of Let’s Jam @ GEM on the 25th August, Thursday. Let’s Jam @ GEM, is an event by the Global Entrepreneurship Movement (GEM) in collaboration with Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) and Impact Hub KL. This full house event kicked off with a unique performance by Good Kids who awed the audience with their skills and their recycled items that were their instruments!

The crowd then welcomed 5 inspiring panelist who took on the question Is Business for Good, Good Business? The panelists were Mastura from The Nasi Lemak Project, Ganesh Muren from Saora Industries, Pastor Elisha from Project B, Andrew Yong from 100% Project and Amy Blair from Batik Boutique.

Ehon Chan, the Executive Director of Social Entrepreneurship from MaGIC moderated the session with interesting discussions. These discussions led to an insightful sharing from Ganesh Muren and Mastura who spoke about their challenges at the initial stage of building their social enterprises, to Pastor Elisah who shared how his organisation evolved from an NGO to a social enterprise; Amy Blair shared the inspiration behind her now global online boutique that sells handmade Batik. The audience also had the pleasure of hearing Andrew’s most rewarding experience that has pushed him to continuously strive to impact the young children in Malaysia positively.

By the time it was the ‘Mix & Fix’ session, the room was buzzing with people asking questions and some sharing their take on the discussions. It was evident that the panel discussion served as a great conversation starter. The ‘Mix & Fix’ session served as an opportunity for the audience to further engage with the speakers. Let’s Jam @ GEM also showcased 9 innovative social enterprises such as Biji-Biji, Project Whee, Inclue, Batik Boutique, 100% Project, Simply Cookies, Project B, Picha Project and Hands of Hope. These showcases allowed for participants to have a better understanding of the different initiatives that are being carried out by these organisations.

On behalf of the GEM organizing committee, MaGIC and Impact Hub KL, we would like to thank our speakers, our showcase social enterprises and all the participants for contributing to the success of yet another Let’s Jam @ GEM session.
