#2030NOW
5 October 2015 - Tricia Francis

This September World Leaders committed to 17 Global Goals to achieve extraordinary things in the next 15 years. They range from ending extreme poverty to fighting inequality & injustice; fixing climate change to ending world hunger. The Global Goals for sustainable development could get these things done. In all countries. For all people. It’s a really exciting time for global development.

Here in the Hub we joined over 100 events in as many countries as part of the Social Good Summit, to celebrate these goals and hosted a Mix n Fix to discuss the future of our planet and achieve #2030Now!

We welcomed Christoffer Choong of UNDP who shared about their role in the Global Goals, but also what the UNDP’s focus is here in Malaysia. We also featured organisations representing all 17 goals: the Food Aid Foundation, SOLS 24/7, MyKasih, Simply Cookies, Water for Smiles, Build for Tomorrow, Think City, Biji Biji, Human Library Malaysia and MENGO/EcoKnights.

During the evening participants were invited to get more familiar with the SDGs, and make a personal pledge to help achieve these global goals. These ranged from buying fewer plastic products, to signing up as volunteers on some of the projects featured. All in the spirit of Global Goals. Local Action.

Here at the Hub we’ll keep you posted on the progress of the SDGs. In the meantime TELL EVERYONE and check out the +Social Good platform for global news.

The next Mix n Fix will be held 21st of October. The theme for this evening will be ‘Do Good with Food’.
