From 27th February – 1st March, Impact Hub KL hosted 48 hours of design thinking as part of the Global Service Jam.
Friday: We kicked off the weekend with a dose of Mix n Fix, our monthly networking event for changemakers. VIP Fellowship teams SOLS and ILMU shared updates from their projects, and we were treated to a performance from beatboxer Jae Kweon, before announcing the Global theme of the Jam.
Saturday: The Jam kicked off for real with inspiring workshops on Design Thinking, before our jammers grouped into teams to solve problems they had identified within Malaysia. After mapping the needs of their users, they launched into prototyping services, before journeying out into the community for feedback! At the end of the day we shared our projects with our Twin Jam in Birmingham over skype – a fantastic way to connect to the Global Jam.
Sunday: With upload deadlines looming, teams jumped straight into iterating their prototypes, testing them on one another, and coming up with role-plays demonstrating their services. One team, Shake & Do, had developed an online platform to connect NGOs to support and funding; the other, Future Superheroes, designed a portal matching disadvantaged children with mentors. Teams pitched their projects to our judges: Angeline Chin, from Credit Suisse, and Dr Shariha Khalid, co-founder of the Impact Hub. The final winner of RM1,000 of Scope UnLtd Try It funding was team Future Superheroes, for their One Child, One Mentor online platform. Congratulations both to them, and all the participants – it was great jamming with you!
