Mix N Fix: Connecting Communities through Art
29 July 2015 - Tricia Francis

On the 28th July, Mix N Fix celebrated a mixture of wonderful things at Impact Hub KL.

To kick-start the evening, our Raya open house featured a live art performance from The Secret Hideout, alongside a video screening of a cool, collaborated painting session with Moments of Truth on the streets of KL. To highlight our second anniversary, our very own co-founder, Dr Shariha Khalid, shared the Story of Mix N Fix – taking us back to the small community of changemakers ‘mixing n fixing’ in a mamak two years ago.

Our speakers of the night, Izan Satrina (My Performing Arts Agency), Christine Ngh (Bumblebee Consultancy), Joanne Teh (Moments of Truth) and Sliz from The Secret Hideout Street Art talked about their life journeys, as well as their dreams and passion for the Arts. As pioneers for the creative industry in Malaysia, we heard about their challenges and obstacles in establishing a thriving environment for local creatives and artists, but it became clear that however dark the path seemed their passion and determination would remain unbeatable.

And then there was the Mixing and Fixing. Starting off with 30 seconds of ‘blind drawing your neighbour’s face,’ we moved onto Christine’s ‘Collaborative Problem-Solving Session’ to tackle the social issues surrounding PPR communities with four Artistic projects. It was really exciting to hear the ideas the teams generated for a community garden, a mural, a team mascot, and a learn & play corner.

Mix N Fix will be back with “Mix N Fix: Merdeka special” on the 26th August, so stay tuned for more updates!
