On the 19th of May, a keen crowd gathered to hear from two leading entrepreneurs at the Mix n Fix on the theme of Start Up to Scale Up! With the start up scene growing at a rapid pace in Malaysia, we were happy to bring together social innovators, social entrepreneurs, students and many others with enterprising ideas and passions together for an evening of sharing and learning.

Our two guest speakers, Daniel Cerventus founding curator of Next Up Asia and TEDxKL, and as Aaron Gill from GrabTaxi (MyTeksi) shared with us their respective start up journeys; from failures to challenges and moments of success, their stories were surely inspiring. One of the biggest takeaways from the panel and Q&A session with these gentlemen was that it is crucial that we know the WHY to our startup or the passion that drives us forward. It is this that helps entrepreneurs push through in moments of difficulty and doubt. Furthermore, the importance of having a good team could not be overstated. In other words, find the ones that will stick by you not only for the good moments, but also during bad times.

The night was made even better with a truly amazing performance by Jes Ibrahim who wooed the audience by singing his original songs. We also played a mini start up game by challenging the audience to come up with an idea for a new and creative start up after having been thrown some random words. It was a lot of fun! And it is safe to say that our community of social innovators and social entrepreneurs championing the start up scene in Malaysia is growing expanding!
